Widget words in footer

As soon as I fix one problem, another shows. This time I want to keep the footer because I have a nice background picture. I do not want to use any widgets but the only way I can see my footer picture is if I select “show widgets in footer” on my page. It also shows the words “first section, second section, etc.” How do I get rid of those words and keep my footer background picture?
