Two questions: short codes and extra padding underneath menu

Hello

1. See attached screen shot, there is a large grey area of blank space always residing underneath the menu. How do I get rid of it or make it much smaller?

2. I was fiddling with some options and now several pages that have short codes in them do not work anymore .. they come up black.

I had used shorcodes to display some information and photo, now wont show at all. What could I have changed in Highend options settings for this to happen? How to fix?
