Social Media Icons

Hello,
I added the sidebar widget for social media icons, but it is blank, only showing the social media title. The icons only darken when I hover over them, but do not show the social media icons or link anywhere. Please let me know how to make the social media icons appear on my website (anywhere really, but preferrably up high on a sidebar) in horizontal order, showing the icons.
