side panel menu display issue

I have enable the Side Panel function and assigned a menu to it. When the Side Panel appears (tested with Firefox, Chrome, and IE) the sub-menu items are all aligned to the left, and thus not distinguishable from their parent items (see attachment). I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. The expected indents appear correctly on mobile devices (Android, iPad).
