Question regarding width on Sidebar using a color background

The attached Image shows the sidebar under FireBug
Questions:

It looks like we added some code (see below) that may have dropped the header on top of the Sidebar Top

Because of the Fixed width when we add color background to the Sidebar the content background shows through on the right side, How can we make the sidebar but to the right? Without breaking

Is this our code correct and do you see any issues with it so far?
