Portfolio items not showing up.

Okay a few problems here.
Firstly when I create a portfolio item and publish it, it shows up in the portfolio widget but not on the page created with a portfolio template.
Even if I click the portfolio item’s image on the widget it simply takes me to a not found page even though I have created the item.
