Portfolio Carousel Image Shape

So on a portfolio page you can chose 1:1 (square) images for showing your content thumbs, but when you create a carousel of that same content you can’t choose square thumbs to be used for the carousel. It always uses a wide thumbnail.

I’d like my portfolio thumbnails in the carousel to also be square. How can I change this?
