Photo size on blog posts

Hello,

My pictures are rendering themselves too large on desktop (see attached photo) in blog posts.

I want them scaled back a bit so the resolution is clearer. I do not know why the pictures are filling to this over sized format; would appreciate some help.

I adjusted the max image height on the high end theme settings, but nothing happened.
