Photo site

I am setting up a new website for my photography. I have a couple of questions that would help me a lot.

1. Should I upload images to Media Library? or to Galleries or Portfolio?I am confused about the difference between Portfolio and Gallery,

2. My template is “like the demo”, and the menus are a little complex for my objective. Any suggestions for a cleaner menu structure. I want people to be able to look at photos
a) by type (eg landscape, portrait etc)
b) by location (eg New Zealand, China etc)

and possibly by date.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated!
