Is visual Composer a paid plugin?

I somehow have visual composer on my domain dashboard, but dont remember ever buying it. I went to add it to a subdomain and all I can find is an option to purchase it. Is it a paid plugin? Im not sure how I got it on my main domain if so? Do I have to purchase for the subdomain if it already shows on my domain.
