How to Have Excerpt Honor Returns

I’m trying to get the excerpt of a post, which is displayed on the homepage, to honor the returns (carriage returns) of the post. I’ve tried including &nbsp and other tricks with control key in the post, but it seems to have no effect. I’ve also tried different ways of posting the information.

What I’m trying to do is get status updates on each property updated then displayed on the homepage; if you have a different recommendation on a way to do this, it’s also appreciate (portfolio, testimonial, etc) if there’s no way to keep the returns from the excerpt.
