frontend editor update button not working since wp update to 4.2–en_GB

my wordpress recently updated itself to the newest version, 4.2–en_GB since then the update button on the frontend editor has not been working. i checked with the visual composer web page and there is a few discussions mentioning this problem and they say update the plugin to version 4.4.4 i tried following the steps mentioned here to deactivate and delete then reinstall the plugin to get the latest version but it keeps coming back as version 4.4.3 how can i get the latest version of the plugin to try and fix the problem or is there anything else i can do to make it work again? i havnt downloaded any new plugins or turned any plugins on or off the only thing that has changed is the new version of wp but i cant reverse this back to the old version to make it work. a quick solution to this would be great as im on a very tight schedule to get the website published and i find it much faster to use the frontend editor. thanks.
