Footer Widget Email Address Not Automatically Linking

In the footer widget I have my email address. It does look highlighted as it should if you are able to click on it and have it open up to automatically send an email. But it goes nowhere. Should you be able to click on the email address and have it open up to an automatic email option? I do have a contact form on my website and so I’m not sure if it should somehow be linking to that? Regardless, when I look at the widget in the Dashboard, I do not see an option to add a link.
