Filter and sort on Blog- Grid template?

Great theme, great work ! It actually is better than I expected. How often does that happen nowadays 🙂

I’m using the Blog – Grid page template to display posts from 4 categories (skipping the other non-blog categories). This works without any problem.

But I would like to show the Filter and Sorter options on our blog page so that people can choose if they want to limit (or sort) the posts. Similar functionality to what is possible with the Portfolio templates. On portfolio pages you have buttons per category and buttons for sort by Date or Name.

Strangely when I start editing our blog page in WordPress I briefly see the Filter and Sorter check boxes (see attachment) similar to when I edit a Portfolio template-based page. But the options are no longer available a few seconds later, and I can’t seem to find them.
