Filing 1/2 column with Google map

I and stuck trying to make my Google map fill the 1/2 column and remain responsive. I have fiddles with every parameter in VC but still no luck. Inexplicably, the map wider than the column )as shown in attachment) and I have no idea how to fix this. I know how to do this for an image, but how is it done for a map?
