Customize Colour Not Working

I am trying to change the background colour of my main menu. When I enter the customize area, firstly if I select one of the colour boxes nothing happens. If I go to the colour mapper, the new colour then shows. Same with change text colour. Both changes show within the customizer. I saved changes, the window on the right in the customizer shows the changes and yet when I return to my home page nothing has changed.
