Child theme can't find menu

I created a HighendWP-child theme. When I look at it in preview mode, it shows the message “Please attach a menu to this menu location in Appearance > Menu” which does not appear in the parent theme. The parent theme does show a menu though.

Any thoughts on where to look or how to fix this ? I don’t want to suppress the message unless that causes the menu to appear.
