Change logo area background color

I am having trouble changing the background color for the logo area.

I tried adding:

#logo a , { background-color: #000000 !important;}

But that did not change it. I am able to find the element using Chrome and change the color there for a preview, but can’t seem to get it to stay by adding the custom CSS above

Any help?
