Adding sidebar menu widget ruins header

    I have added a sidebar menu widget to a page in my site. It completely malforms the header (logo & navigation menu). I remove all my changes and the malformed header persists. I cannot find a way to fix it. This has happened in two separate projects. Is this a known issue? What is the solution?
