why hovering over featured image…

    Im using theme Highend.

    Question 1:
    When I hover over a featured image on a post page I don’t understand whats happening – there suddenly appears a semi transparent coloring with a + mark in the middle. What is this? How do I manipulate this? See on link below:

    Question 2:
    Also how do I change/reduce the size of the feature image on post pages?
