VC shortcodes and excerpts

Hi,
I’m trying figure out how to use visual composer for blog posts and still use the wordpress excerpt function.

I was all set to just avoid the entire issue by inputting manual excerpts, but it turns out that the blog carousel will not pull manually entered excerpts and breaks when the posts have [vc] tags.

I’ve tried several solutions, but none have worked.

Is there something I can place in the child theme’s functions.php to fix this? It’s very frustrating.
