Update from 3.1

Hi, how do I update a theme v3.1 to the current version? I built this site for a client years ago and turned it over to him and he recently came to me asking for help with some issues he’s having. The options page is currently stuck on general settings. I’m guessing that updating the theme version is the first step to fixing this?
