Sidebar width issue

I have the Aegaeus theme running in responsive mode with a default sidebar that has lines of text in list format. In the computer browser and mobile device formats, the text in the sidebar looks fine. However in the tablet portrait layout, the sidebar becomes too narrow and the text wraps incorrectly.

Two questions:

1. How can I increase the width of the sidebar in the iPad-size layout?

2. I would also like to decrease the padding in the sidebar to get more space before wrapping occurs – how can I do that?

I’m obviously hoping for some simple css lines to add to the theme, but I’m willing to manually edit the css, php, etc files if need be.
