'Sale' and 'New' product ribbons look odd in live site

The ‘sale’ and ‘new’ product ribbons look great and formatted nicely when the customiser is on but once it’s just the live website the formatting goes all weird, rectangled and misaligned text. here’s an image to show you. I need them to always look like they do when the Customiser is running…
