Responsive Issues in theme

I am having some issues with the default breakpoints. There documentation on the default settings somewhere.

Where do you add custom media queries to handle these issues? I see there is an Additional CSS area, but it doesn’t accept my standard code.

I was inspecting the content and copying the code after modifying the temporary view. When I paste if it tells me I have errors. Help!
