Portfolio or Gallery

Hi,
I’m trying to build a gallery or portfolio…. don’t know which to use. I did not see the videos on HIgh end youtube page.
Basically I would like something in the photo, in which the button will send off to another website. This is a photo of a “? gallery” on a page. How do I go about doing this?

I tried starting a portfolio – but the main image just took me to another inner page on my site…
