Increase standard with of site

I’d like the site width to be larger than 1140 but not 100%, maybe a max-width of 1600 or so. I found a few similar questions on the forum, one has yet to be answered and another gave a solution https://hb-themes.com/forum/all/topic/boxed-layout-width-css/ but when I put this solution in, my site was no longer responsive until it got to tablet mode and below.

I’d like it to max out at 1600, then scale down appropriately from there. Can you please point me in the right direction.
