How can I have an extract showing on my home page?

HI again. Can you tell me how I can have a short extract showing on my home page (my home page is my blog). It currently shows the featured image, the post title, the ‘posted by’ line and then a button that says ‘read more’.

I would like to have a short extract from my post showing as a teaser.
