Hide the tag description in the main menu

I set up a drop down main menu which includes a tag search.
This tag has quite a big description assigned to it which is important to the results page.
However the description should not appear in the dropdown menu (it looks awful)
Is it possible to prevent descriptions from popping up in the main menu?
