Google maps for Aegaeus

Using Aegaeus 4.1 and can’t get the Google Maps feature to work. I found another post on this forum and followed the instructions (Google Maps/Classic/1st link etc). Finally a map showed but it was somewhere in Kansas (I think). I’m in Australia.
I could use a plugin but I don’t want the map in the content area. And if I disable the map I lose the coloured keyline and ‘down arrow’, which I like more than the map. I can do without the map. If it’s not possible to get the map working, is it possible to disable it but keep the coloured keyline/arrow?
