display portfolio as long list w/ thumbnails?

I have many portfolio items (around 35 or so), that I would like to display on a single page, making it easy to click into any of them for more detail. I know I can currently set the number of items to display to -1 in order to display all of them, but then that page loads slowly because of the graphics size, and also involves a lot of scrolling.

Ideally, I’d like to see a layout that looks like a sequence of rows, each with content like this:

[thumbnail][title][excerpt]

with clicking on any part of that row to bring you to the detail page for that portfolio.

If that is not possible with any of the currently provided portfolio templates, could you suggest how I might be able to accomplish it?
