Default Featured Image Dimensions

Is there a way to set default dimensions for featured images? Settings like cropping apply to the thumbnail shown on the posts page that lists all posts, but then all featured images seem to load the full resolution (and you cannot modify this like you can the image block uploaded images).

It would be a lot easier if there was a feature to set a default max height and images were resized to that height if greater!
