Importing Pages/Posts from another site – can't disable comments

I am building out my clients website and have imported the pages from his old website (which is on the latest version of wordpress) and noticed that the comments are enabled on every one of the pages I imported. I went into the settings of the page to try and disable it but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

How can I set this up to disable the comments for the pages – OR do I have to re-import the pages some specific way?
