Contact Permalink Loads Theme Contact Form

I have set a page named “Contact” with the permalink to be mydomain.com/contact/. I have a different contact form that I want to use, but it gets overridden by the theme’s default contact form under this permalink. I have looked at page-contact.php, but it did not get me anywhere. The preferred contact form shows up if I set the permalink to something other than …/contact/. For example, …/contact-2/ works.

How do I stop the theme’s default contact form from taking over a page even though the page template is set to “Default Template” instead of “Contact Template”?
