Get rid of lightbox for product image gallery and change product details layout

I was hoping to get rid of the product gallery function where a lightbox appears on click. I want to change it so that when you click an image from the gallery, the main product photo switches to the one you clicked.

Also I want to know if it is possible to make it so the product details can be laid out like the one on this site rather than product tabs
