megamenu not “cascading”?

I have one megamenu set up, and followed the video.
And I can get child items under the three submenus added with # (column1, column2, etc).
The first-level submenus appear in tehir correct columns, but then submenus under those…do not come as another level, they are all at the first-level menu.
Is this normal? I’m confused. (and when I set up regular menu for the mobile position, the first level also is the only one that cascades).
