User Comments on site usage

I have a product category drop down on the product pages for the user to select the app device, and then the type of app. This is confusing to the users so I want to edit the page… But the product pages sidebar widget is not editable? How can I edit the sidebar content?

The header has general settings but no way to edit the text in the header: for example; the search field and magnifying glass do not have a tooltip or placeholder text to make it obvious where to type in text. Is there a way to add this to the header?
