video post preview not showing

when I set up a post grid or something similar, the “preview image” doesnt show for video posts. I guess it is just looking for the standard image associated with the post. I notice this isn’t a problem on the theme template for fullwidth masonry, but it is a problem for the elements used in building a page, like box posts, etc. Anyone have any insight or fixes for this?
