Font Color For Menu

Hi there!

I’ve been pretty frustrated by trying to get the CSS code to work for ONLY changing a menu item’s font color. I used the code below, and I can’t really seem to figure out why it isn’t working. I can change other factors (like background color), but nothing I do changes font color. Can anyone help?

#main-nav>li.menu-red>a { color: #c0392b; }

Is there any chance I could have a plugin or something like that complicating the issue?
