Featured post with picture

I would like to have a featured page or post on the home page with the “featured image” from that post or page appearing along side the teaser text. I can’t figure out how to do this. The Blog Carousel wants more than one post and doesn’t include the featured image. The posts widget doesn’t include the image either.

I don’t want my site admins to edit the home page so my preference is that they create a new post or page and assign a category to it called “home” which will then be used to populate that portion of the home page.
