Footers- Links and Text

In the Highend Shop demo, the words in the footer are the links themselves. There is no custom menu with a title and then a box below it that you must click on. I would like to do the same on my website. How can customize my footer to include a short About blurb for my business and have words that are links to other pages? I have been unsuccessful trying to insert a customized menu in the footer widget area…
